ISDS Roundtable, Seoul, Republic of Korea
The UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RCAP) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of the Republic of Korea are pleased to invite government representatives to the roundtable discussion on investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) reform (the ISDS Roundtable) to be held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 12-13 December 2019.
Co-organized by UNCITRAL RCAP and MOJ, the ISDS Roundtable will provide representatives of States from the Asia-Pacific Region the opportunity to meet and exchange their views on a number of ISDS reform options being considered by UNCITRAL Working Group III as part of the third phase of its mandate to develop relevant solutions to be recommended to the Commission. The ISDS Roundtable will consist of seven sessions delving into appellate mechanism, third-party funding, code of conduct, advisory Centre, multilateral instrument on ISDS reform, multilateral investment court and appointment of arbitrators and adjudicators. Please find attached the tentative programme which is subject to change.
It is hoped that the one-and-a-half-day ISDS Roundtable will allow the delegations to share views about reform options which will be discussed at the next Working Group session scheduled to be held in Vienna from 20 to 24 in January 2020 as well as those that will be further considered in future sessions. UNCITRAL RCAP and MOJ cordially invite government representatives to the ISDS Roundtable to share views on these ISDS reform options. It is expected that the discussions will be based on working papers prepared by the Secretariat on these reform options as well as submissions made by States to the Working Group. We are currently seeking State representatives who are willing to volunteer to lead the discussion on some of the reform options.
