The UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP) is pleased to announce the Webinar: “UNCITRAL 2021 Overview and Legal Developments”, co-organised with LAWASIA. The webinar will provide insights into the technical work being undertaken across UNCITRAL’s six working groups with a particular focus on dispute resolution and other dimensions of the commercial framework underpinning international trade.
Following the consideration of the proposal by China (A/CN.9/998) and a note by the Secretariat (A/CN.9/1034) on possible future work by UNCITRAL towards the development of a negotiable transport document, UNCITRAL, at its fifty-second session, requested its secretariat to conduct research on legal issues related to the use of railway or other consignment notes, and at its fifty-third session, UNCITRAL requested its secretariat to start preparatory work towards the development of a new international instrument on multimodal negotiable transport documents that could be used for contracts not involving carriage by sea. In this context, the UNCITRAL secretariat organized on 13 and 14 April an open webinar to assess the most recent legal developments related to electronic negotiable transport documents and seek views of the wide legal community on them. The UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP) is pleased to announce the Webinar on “Regional Perspective of UNCITRAL ADR Instruments on Ease of Doing Business in Asia and the Pacific”, co-organised with the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre. The webinar will explore how UNCITRAL ADR instruments serve as a means for Bangladesh and the region to promote and strengthen a legally enabling environment for doing business and facilitating cross-border trade. The Colloquium will provide an opportunity to discuss the framework of UNCITRAL Legislative Guide and Model Legislative Provisions on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) against the background of the Belt and Road Initiative infrastructure projects launched by the People’s Republic of China in 2014.
Co-organized by UNCITRAL and the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), with the support of the China PPP Center (Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China), the Department of Treaties and Laws (Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China) as well as the Asian Academy of International Law, the Colloquium will be held virtually during two half-days, on 8 and 9 April 2021.

UNCITRAL is joining with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the International and Comparative Research Center to hold a virtual discussion session on the digitalization of international trade. The event will cover a range of issues related to current and possible future work of UNCITRAL in this important area, with a particular focus on COVID-19 response and recovery. Co-organised by UNCITRAL, Ministry of Justice of Japan (MOJ), and the Japan International Dispute Resolution Centre (JIDRC), the Dispute Resolution in the Digital Economy workshop will be held virtually on 30 and 31 March 2021.
