Opening of the 53rd Session of UNCITRAL

Miguel de Serpa Soares, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, spoke on the occasion of opening of the 53rd session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) on 6 July 2020. In his remarks he discusses the challenges of holding a session during COVID-19, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the CISG and the signing of the Singapore Convention on Mediation, reviews the issues in front of the Commission at the 53rd session, and previews the virtual panel series that will be held on "UNCITRAL Texts and COVID-19 Response and Recovery".
