Online Dispute Resolution
In 2010, UNCITRAL noted the sharp increase of online cross-border transactions and the parallel need for mechanisms for resolving disputes arising from such transactions, one of which is online dispute resolution (ODR). In 2016, UNCITRAL adopted the Technical Notes on Online Dispute Resolution to assist States, in particular developing countries and States whose economies are in transition, ODR administrators, ODR platforms, neutrals, and the parties to ODR proceedings in developing and using ODR systems. The Technical Notes are non-binding and descriptive and embody the principles of fairness, transparency, due process and accountability.
