At its fifty-ninth session, the Commission mandated Working Group VI to examine the applicability of the general rules of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions to digital assets and to develop specific rules for digital assets, where necessary. As agreed by the Commission, the Working Group's initial focus will be on digital assets, in a manner consistent with existing international instruments. The Working Group will consider the feasibility of extending its work to data as collateral (in light of their growing importance in the economy) at a later stage. The Working Group will meet in New York from 8 to 12 February 2027 and will consider a draft text to be prepared by the UNCITRAL secretariat with the assistance of relevant experts.
